"Interwoven Realms" emerges as a poignant exploration of unity and imagination in an increasingly fragmented world. As a collaborative endeavor between Rick Midler of Brooklyn and Mikey Rioux of Chicago, this series speaks to the urgent need for connection and creative synergy in contemporary society.”

In a time marked by division and discord, "Interwoven Realms" offers a sanctuary of unity and diversity. Through the intricate layering of patterned papers—florals, damask designs, and earthy hues—Midler and Rioux construct dreamlike landscapes where boundaries dissolve and fantastical creatures coexist with the memories of mythical beings.

The inclusion of sea creatures and statues within "Interwoven Realms" serves multiple symbolic purposes: Sea creatures evoke a sense of mystery and wonder, drawing us into the depths of the subconscious and the vastness of the natural world. By juxtaposing them with terrestrial elements like marble statues of wizards and deities, Midler and Rioux create a playground in which to contemplate the fluid boundaries between different realms of existence.

Secondly, carved statues of wizards and deities carry a weight of history and mythology. These guardians of wisdom and tradition serve as symbols of collective memory and cultural significance.

Yet, beyond its aesthetic allure, this series serves as a reminder of the transformative power of collaboration. In a world plagued by polarization, Midler and Rioux demonstrate the potential for harmony when individuals from diverse backgrounds come together to weave a collective vision. Each collage becomes a testament to the richness that emerges when disparate elements converge in a shared space of creativity and mutual respect.

Mikey and Rick started three pieces each - constructing background environments of their own style. They shipped the cradled boards between Chicago and Brooklyn where they each added their own twist on the works. The series developed without any formal direction. However, a theme emerged and they soon realized that they were connecting not only through collaborative art making, but in letting two already surreal worlds play together.
